What exactly is VirtualCam?
A camera that makes you someone else, live. Point your webcam at yourself, pick a character, and what comes out the other side is them - moving, reacting, and expressing exactly like you.
How is this different from face-swap apps?
Face-swap tools paste a new face over yours - same hair, same head shape, same silhouette. VirtualCam replaces the whole head, hair included, so you genuinely look like a different person, not yourself in a mask.
Do I need a powerful computer?
No. All the heavy lifting happens in the cloud. Any laptop with a browser and a webcam works - there's nothing to install.
What does it cost?
Plans start at $12/month for 10 minutes per day, and run up to $299/month for six hours a day. Every tier runs the same engine at the same quality - the only thing that changes is how long you can stay live.
Does the setup wait count against my daily time?
No. The clock only runs while your session is actually live. Waiting for your studio to start is always free.
Can I stream to Twitch or use it in Zoom?
Not yet - Backstage (private rehearsal) is what's live today. OBS support comes next, which unlocks Twitch, YouTube, Zoom, and anything else that accepts a webcam.
Is my camera footage stored?
Only if you choose to record. Your video is processed live and nothing is saved unless you press Record, which mixes in your microphone and saves the take to your Recordings tab - yours to watch, download, or delete. Otherwise the session leaves nothing behind: when you end it, the private studio that served it is shut down. The one exception: to keep streams safe we may automatically check occasional still frames of the transformed output, and a frame is only kept (briefly, securely, for human review) if it gets flagged. What happens when I hit the daily limit?
The session ends on its own and your time resets at midnight UTC. Your personas and settings are untouched.
